| On Eurodam, Nieuw Amsterdam, Noordam, Westerdam, Oosterdam,
Prinsendam, Zuiderdam: Every single Stateroom has a cooler (HAL does not
like to use the word refrigerator as they don't get as cool as some medicines
that require "refrigeration" need... but they will get beverages cold...)
[ On the rest of the HAL fleet (and note the above says NIEUW AMSTERDAM... NOT Amsterdam ) If it has a verandah, it has a cooler! [ [ IRL_Joanie's Note: The standard Verandah/Balcony is 6 feet deep by 9 feet wide. VA aft/stern Verandah/Balcony are deeper (how much depends on which deck, and Vista class versus Signature class). VD are 7.5 feet deep. VF and VE on Vista Class ships, Noordam, Oosterdam, Westerdam and Zuiderdam, Verandah deck are only 4.5 feet deep. As of this time I do not have information on the Verandah/Balcony sizes of the PS, SA, SB, SC or SY categories Staterooms. Here's a place where the Signature Class ships, Eurodam and Nieuw
Amsterdam, deck plans are significantly wrong: VA 4053, VA 4054,
VD 4129, and VD 4132 have balconies that are about 14 ft deep, as they
extend all the way out past the lifeboat. The railing is actually in line
with all the VD's. (The railings of VD 4051, VD 4052, VD 4131, and VD 4134
do not angle in.)

Our cabin was in the front of the ship. The verandah had solid steel instead of the glass and it wasn’t totally covered. It was neat to watch the ship cut into the water and look up at the bridge. We could see officers standing on that cool window in the floor. The Captain even waved at us a few times.
There was a sign in the cabin that said, “For navigational purposes, external balcony light will be controlled by the bridge.” Another said, “Window curtains to remain closed from sunset until sunrise for navigational purposes.” Glad we could help navigate.
In Half Moon Cay, we woke up to the anchor dropping. Wow, now I know
what people are talking about when they say how loud it is! October 2009

We love this cabin with it its larger balcony! We had the same cabin
on the Zuiderdam in 2008 and will be in it again February 2010. It is right
across from the forward elevator bank which is very convenient and we did
not hear much noise from the elevator area. We had friends in the connecting
cabin 4045 so noise would not have been an issue - or easily fixed. (IRL_Joanie's
Note: The last 2 photos show the difference in railings, steel versus plexiglass
between VF 4041 (Steel Railings) and VD 4043 (Plexiglass Railings).

G-Category cabin, 4104. A G-category cabin is a great cabin for 1 person.
The vanity/desk/cabinet space is larger than a Verandah cabin's. The sitting
area is small, and there's too much furniture. The Eurodam's new color
schemes are nice. There are TWO US-and 2 European-current plugs! This is
a major improvement. Some of the "hidden" storage space. An annoying stool.
I ended up putting it in a corner. There are two drawers and an open shelf
for you to use in the night stands. The bathroom is tiny. The tub side
is not too high to just step over (unlike on an S-class ship). NO cabinet
in the bathroom ... just shelves that things fall off of in high seas.
Counter space in the bathroom is sufficient for a single guy in the room
by himself.

VD 4141 Deluxe Verandah Ocean View Stateroom Deck 4
Upper Promenade Deck
[
Stateroom Description Only: VD 4141-just around the corner
from the aft stairwell and elevators-just a quick trip down to deck two
and dinner! The starboard location allowed some spectacular sunsets from
our verandah-all the way to St. Thomas. Our verandah had a plexi-glass
front, so we had a great view of the ocean. It was a very quiet location,
with no vibration, and no noticable motion. The temp controls worked well.
Above the sofa-we had some art work. We also had a padded, straight
backed chair (no arms-sort of like something one would use at a dining
room table), located in front of the window, facing the table and sofa.
We thought the balcony very spacious with an additional wicker easy chair
with large wicker footstool/table. Our room did not have a connecting door
to the next cabin, but it appeared each balcony divider could be partially
opened to connect to the next. We did not make use of this as we were traveling
alone.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in the Cabin on Upper Promenade deck
for our Baltic Cruise. The double (triple?) glazed balcony door/window
proved very effective at reducing the noise from the wash and the cabin
was very quiet overall - although I can see that, for some, being so far
away from say, the Theatre might be a drawback - on the other hand you
get exercise! This cabin is certainly very handy for the Rembrandt Dining
Room though - whether you are just down one level for fixed sitting or
two for anytime dining.
The open Promenade is below your own balcony, with the balconys of aft cabins on higher decks above, raked forwards. Passengers in higher cabins, and on Lido deck can look over their rail and see you if you are also on the rail, but if you sit back with your feet up there's little problem with being overlooked. We also only noticed cigarette smoke drifting towards us on the balcony once when in port - it certainly wasn't a problem when underway. And we heard nothing from adjacent cabins (although they WERE occupied), nor from the cabins above us.
The bathroom was what (real) estate agents would describe as 'compact' - if you are tall, don't expect to be able to laze full-length in the bath. It's lovely to have both a shower and a bath too, but the bath isn't designed for extended wallowing. The shower was very controllable I found. And, should you feel the need to wash any clothes or just to hang up the swimming things, there is an extendable line over the bath.
The only drawback, as others have pointed out, is that the closet area (wardrobes to us UKers) is very dark - we resolved this by opening the bathroom door right back and having the light on in there - but it wasn't an insurmountable problem.
If you check the deckplan for the aft of Eurodam, you'll notice there appears to be a stairway just round the corner from this cabin which goes down to Promenade Deck. I should perhaps point out that this stairway is marked for "Emergency Use Only" (NOT 'Staff Use Only') and the door to the outside on Promenade Deck has a CCTV camera trained on it - so we didn't risk it!
Our Cabin Stewards were smiling, helpful and friendly but unobtrusive and we found room service to be efficient for that all important (to us Brits) early morning cuppa!
Overall, I would say this cabin exceeded our expectations.

Our cabin 4183. It was an aft balcony, that was categorized as a VB,
but it was surrounded by VA's. I'm still not sure why it was a VB.
The cabin was great & it was our first aft balcony. The only
negative comment I have is that the lighting was very poor in the closet
area and it was difficult to see. A flashlight would have come in
handy!

Mel set the whole thing up for us, including tracking down room numbers for people I wanted to invite, and printed an official invitation from us (on ship's stationary) for the party. Fernando (in picture) showed up just because he wanted to, just to make sure we were happy. (and while there, made sure to pour for our guests).
Only wish we could do this again, found out when we returned home: if I wanted something, I had better see to it myself as there was no one to make it for me, or wait on me. We had room service one time, for breakfast....what a treat. White table cloth, flowers, the whole thing.
Oh, by the way....in suite, ice bucket and cabinet full of Waterford crystal....what a nice touch. Every type of glass you would want was available, and in kitchen were pieces of china and silverware for use. Cabin stewards were wonderful and very helpful.
Down side? People thought we had more money just because we were in this suite, and although no one EVER asked for tips, we felt guilty if we did NOT tip on the high side. But it was worth every penny and more. Oh, and except for cruise critic members onboard, we never mentioned to anyone where we stayed...

Our suite was located right across from the Neptune
Lounge, which was very convenient for dropping in for concierge services,
quick drinks and snacks during the day. We were always greeted by name
by both our cabin stewards and the Neptune staff (the attendants all from
the Pinnacle Grill wait staff), who were always very prompt in executing
all our requests. The suite is located just forward of midships, in a corridor
that is very quiet. While one could sometimes feel the motion of the ship
in the forward and aft sections of the ship, we could hardly notice any
movement in our cabin. There were so many cupboards and storage areas,
we were spoilt for choice in where to store everything we brought on board.
The suite is ample in size, providing plenty of space to stretch out and
enjoy the ocean view from both inside on the couch and from the spacious
balcony. We preferred lounging on our own balcony to doing so in the public
areas. I would usually just grab a beverage and a plate of snacks from
the Neptune Lounge and laze around on the lounge chairs with my book, while
hubby stretched out on the couch to watch a movie. Since the balcony is
quite deep, too much sun and wind is never a problem.
The bathroom and cabin were serviced twice daily
by our two cabin attendants, who also diligently fetched and returned our
laundry and drycleaning (included as benefit) on a daily basis. The two
days we ordered room service for breakfast, it arrived even before the
designated time! The rest of the week we preferred to eat breakfast in
the Pinnacle Grill, who even accommodated us after they closed on the morning
of disembarkation. We also appreciated the lovely flowers, complimentary
champagne and regularly replenished buckets of ice we received, as well
as the many electrical outlets throughout the cabin. My only small complaints
would be the tiny reading lights next to the bed, compared to the ample
reading lamps around the cabin, and the small refrigerator that is more
like a cooler box. No complaints regarding the size and level of comfort
of the bed, seating and even the big screen tv, which could swivel in all
directions. In general we thought the cabin was very well designed and
optimised for space. Oct. 2009
