On Eurodam, Nieuw Amsterdam, Noordam, Westerdam, Oosterdam, Prinsendam, Zuiderdam: Every single Stateroom has a cooler (HAL does not like to use the word refrigerator as they don't get as cool as some medicines that require "refrigeration" need... but they will get beverages cold...)

On the rest of the HAL fleet (and note the above says NIEUW AMSTERDAM... NOT Amsterdam ) If it has a verandah, it has a cooler!

IRL_Joanie's Note: The standard Verandah/Balcony is 6 feet deep by 9 feet wide. VA aft/stern Verandah/Balcony are deeper (how much depends on which deck, and Vista class versus Signature class). VD are 7.5 feet deep. VF and VE on Vista Class ships, Noordam, Oosterdam, Westerdam and Zuiderdam, Verandah deck are only 4.5 feet deep. As of this time I do not have information on the Verandah/Balcony sizes of the PS, SA, SB, SC or SY categories Staterooms.

Here's a place where the Signature Class ships, Eurodam and Nieuw Amsterdam, deck plans are significantly wrong: VA 4053, VA 4054, VD 4129, and VD 4132 have balconies that are about 14 ft deep, as they extend all the way out past the lifeboat. The railing is actually in line with all the VD's. (The railings of VD 4051, VD 4052, VD 4131, and VD 4134 do not angle in.)

WiFi Antenna Locations

If you want to get the best possible wifi signal in your cabin on the Noordam, book one near the locations of the hallway antennas that I have listed below. I would bet that they are in similar locations on the other three Vista ships as well.

VF 4022 - steel sided verandah on Deck 4 - ms Noordam. My sister and I loved the cabin, the location and the privacy and roominess that the verandah offered. One drawback if you are a light sleeper would be the late night rehearsals from the below theaters. While my sister and I could hear voices/music near the bathroom /closet area, this was silenced once we turned on my "white noise" machine. However, my brother was staying in the same cabin location on the opposite side of the ship, and he could hear the singers/music loud and clear! He did not have a "white noise" machine to cover the noise. He at first thought the singing was coming from the cabin next door, and proceeded to bang on the wall. lol When that didn't do the trick, he called the purser to complain. He was told it was the performers practicing for an upcoming show. Shortly thereafter, the singing stopped. The next day, a chocolate covered strawberry plate was delivered to his stateroom.

4061 is a fully obstructed view category HH. One photo shows the "obstructed" view and the other shows a twin bed makeup in this type of cabin. The difference in view between the HH 4061 and G 4063 was minimal and 4061 is a little cheaper.

Noordam: Outside/Partly Obstructed G-Category Cabin, 4079, Upper Promenade Deck. On the Noordam in Jan 2007 I had a G-category partially obscured cabin. This was a GREAT location and a very nice cabin. Few things are as wonderful as the wonderful HAL beds! The view out my windows ... I had a nice view between tenders.

The Verandahs for VD 4164 and VD 4166 are 18 feet wide as opposed to the average 9 feet wide. So if you are choosing for the size of your verandah, these 2 staterooms appear to be the best for size.

IRL_Joanie's Note: VA 4174, VA 4176, VA 4179 and VA 4181 Deluxe Verandah Ocean View Staterooms. These VA AFT Staterooms are about 3 feet lomger than the other 2 Aft facing cabins (VB 4178 and VB 4183.) They are also about 6 inches wider. Does not sound like much but does help with the congestion around the end of the bed. Balcony size is about 10 feet X 10 feet with a lounge chair, two deck chairs, a very small table and ottoman/footstool. The Deck 4 Aft VA's are all about 3 ft longer inside than the side VA's, and the balconies are about 4 ft deeper than the side VA's.

Noordam 4176, VA, aft (stern) cabin. Loved the cabin, bed, bath tub, and the size of the balcony (we were able to get two loungers plus the chair and ottoman and side table). Didn’t like the fact that the aft cabin’s balcony didn’t seem to get any breeze so, although the views were great, we didn’t get to enjoy the balcony as much as usual because it was too hot.

VB 4178 Deluxe Verandah Ocean View Stateroom Deck 4 Upper Promenade Deck

This VB cabin is just like four VA cabins we have had on Vista ships with 2 exceptions: (1) it is about 6 inches wider, which makes it easier to get by the end of the bed, and (2) the closet nearest the door is recessed (i.e. shallower) about 6 inches, which reduces its capacity considerably because the hanger bar is mounted perpendicular to the wall. You get 10" of hanger bar instead of 22".

The verandah is about 9.5 ft wide by 11 ft deep. It has not only the standard two chairs, ottoman, and small table, but also a lounger. Sorry, I didn't get the small (1 ft) round table in the pic. The only trash we had fall on the balcony was a paper glass-cap and one cigarette butt. Once my wife had her legs soaked with water from a steward washing the plexiglas railing of the cabin above.

At times the vibration in this cabin from the propellers was quite bad, and at other times non-existent. The vibration was definitely related to speed, but there was more involved than just that - possibly the wave heights. Sometimes it was glassy smooth and quiet at better than 20 knots, and other times the vibration was bad around 18 to 20 knots. Overall, there was more smooth time than bad time.

The arrangement of furniture in our cabin (SY6068) is not the standard for an SY. As we were to be in there for 33 days we decided to change a couple of things.
[
Firstly, we moved the linen tub (don’t know how else to describe it) from under the dressing table to inside the middle closet. There was still room to hang short clothes above it. We moved one of the armchairs from the foot of the bed to under the dressing table – it was easy to pull out when you wanted to sit there. We put the other chair between the balcony door and the TV.

This re-arrangement gave us a lot more room with just the small table at the foot of the bed. (IRL_Joanie's Note: On the Verandah/Balcony photos, I misnumbered the photos as 6088, that is incorrect they are in fact SY 6068. To change the name of the photos would cause many problems at this time. So remember they are of SY 6068!!)

"We had the pleasure of spending 20 days in Cabin 6071 in January. My husband and I loved it! It was spacious, storage area was great, bathroom was a decent size. It was quiet, calm, the air conditioning worked fine. The room is convenient to other decks, providing a little bit of much needed exercise to get to the public areas. Compared to cabins we've previously stayed in on three different Princess ships (two inside and one oceanview), this cabin was larger, approx 200 sq ft. Our only complaint was that we had been told by HAL Ship Services that the cabin was 243 sq ft, so we were disappointed that wasn't the case. It was, however, large enough for the two of us; it would also be ok for three people. We did not mind not having a window. Just bring a night light or two! " (IRL_Joanie's Note: In the 4th photo the shelves in the closet where the hanging clothes are can be lifted up so that your clothes can be hung properly.)

We took the Nov. 11-21-09 Southern Caribbean cruise on the Noordam and loved it. Our 3rd HAl and 10th overall. We got an upsell from a balcony cabin and love the huge balcony. It is 14.5' long and about 8' wide. Had breakfast out there nearly every morning. We felt so pampered.

The suite was beautifully maintained, as you can see from the pictures. I posted a review on Cruisemates (before I discovered Cruise Critic!), although it was more about the ports and our activities than about the Noordam. We loved the ship, the staff and the cruise, and plan to sail HAL again in 2011.

Arrived at rooms about 2:30. Before the market crash, I, as usual, was feeling flush, so I got a suite for us and an outside balcony for the kids. The suite was at least twice the size of a normal stateroom, came with a private lounge for suite holders, a Captain's welcoming cocktail party, free laundry service, and other meaningless BS. But I loved the size of the room.

Noordom SC 6177 is a spacious cabin with one of the biggest (non penthouse) balcony’s I've seen. We stayed there for 21 days for the Christmas 2009 holidays. If you're thinking about this suite, don't hesitate; very acceptable cruising accommodations.

I've listed some of my pro/cons below for a quick overview of my experience in this suite:

***Pros: Cabin...

~ Spacious cabin (here's the link to my "Suite Tour" YouTube post: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mnHdUK1PCNI)
~ Large balcony (here's the link to my "Balcony Tour" YouTube post: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=38e4wG2_S0o)
~ Quiet (zero noise except for the occasional moving of balcony furniture from the suite above)
~ Big bathroom; two sinks, Jacuzzi tub with removable shower head and separate shower with removable shower head
~ Great room service, you can order any restaurant item to your cabin (full daily menu's delivered to your cabin)
~ Laundry and dry cleaning included
~ Binoculars, umbrellas, bath robes, small flat screen TV, safe, a couple of locking draws

***Cons: Cabin...

~ Being all the way aft, it can get some significant movement in the open ocean (I happen to like rough seas but thought I'd mention it in case you do not share my affinity)
~ I couldn't help but think that the cabin would have been dramatically improved with another window (at the head of the bed where the mirrors are) to take advantage of the significant starboard field of view (this is more of a nice to have and there may be structural reasons for not doing this)

SA 7071 on the Noordam. This room was great and we were quite happy! Loved the size of the balcony and we used it quite often. We never felt crowded in this room plus we loved the separate dressing area. Dh could have privacy in the bath while I put my make-up on outside the bathroom. Closet space was awesome and we did not use all of it. The separate shower stall is small so we used the shower over the tub. Sorry that picture did not come through on this e-mail. I will try to send it separately. We never used the whirlpool, but some pax might enjoy it. All in all, SA suites are the best!

The cabin is on the Noordam VA8027, forward close to the forward stairwell and elevators. We really liked both the cabin and the location. While a little smaller than the superior veranda it was still fine for my sister and I and comfortably met our needs. As we had taken an upgrade from Main Deck to the Navigation Deck and the balcony, we were thrilled!! My brothers were next door and the room steward opened the door between our 2 balconies, loved it!!

Noordam: Outside SS-Category Superior Suite, 8078, Navigation Deck. There are drawers under the beds. The desk area provides a view out onto the verandah. The oversized bathroom of an SS Cabin is wonderfull. It even has twin sinks. A large tub ... ... with jets ... and a shower, too. The Verandah is extra-wide an deep enough ... for several people, including a table. Cruise Critics' own RevNeal and his cousin, Christopher on the Verandah. It is possible to open the dividers between the verandahs ...to create a much larger outdoor space. We had 4 cabins in a row opened to each other.

Mom & I were so disappointed when we walked in and the beds had been turned down but there was no towel animal. Then we opened the bathroom door to discover a little monkey had slipped in!! We screamed with glee! So the zoo is complete. An elephant, dog, swan, monkey and rabbit! So cute, each and every one!! All made by our cabin steward, Ade.
