A good sized room with ample closet and drawer space. Bow location, very close to elevators and stair case and to Deck A, used for disembarkation in ports etc. Can be noisy with strange sounds below; sounded like a door opening/closing at night time (it was very rocky that night) Rest of the voyage we had no noise. We liked the location.

These are pictures of E 1871 and E 1872 on the Rotterdam . The rooms are identical – just on opposite sides of the ship. They are mid-ship and on the Dolphin Deck (bottom deck). The cabins were approximately 190 sq. ft. and are Oceanview (category E). They are roomy with lots of closet space. The bathroom had a bathtub/shower combination. The bathtub was quite small – not for tall people. 1872 is a connecting room – could hear some noise through the connecting door and also, if smokers are in the connecting room, you will certainly smell the smoke through the connecting door. These are quiet rooms with nothing above or below to bother you.

DD 3388 Large Ocean View Stateroom Lower Promenade Deck

We had Ocean view (DD3388) on the Lower Promenade deck for our 7 day Alaska Explorer cruise on the Rotterdam. This is the first time not having at least a verandah cabin so we were not quite sure what to expect...

We found the cabin was a bit smaller than those we have been in before, but found it was very clean and well laid out. There was plenty of storage, both for empty suitcases (2 large and 1 small) and all of our clothing. The closet system was excellent, with shelves that could either lay flat for stacking or get folded up to allow for more hanging space. The bathroom was spacious and quite updated, with ample storage shelves for what we brought along. We chose this cabin for its proximity to walking area and the aft elevators so we could easily get to an outside area to take photos (as we have been used to having a verandah to step out on). Though we had been warned that this particular block of outside cabins were located under the main kitchen and could be a little loud at times we didn't experience any problems of this nature. There were times we could hear carts being rolled above us etc, but it was never loud enough to be bothersome or make it difficult to sleep, even for my girlfriend who is a very light sleeper. We were also told it could be an issue having the curtains open on the Lower Promenade with people walking by all day, but we didn't find this to be a problem and left both sets of curtains open during the day so we could enjoy the view. We did take a set of clothes pins to pin the curtains shut at night (as recommended by a fellow CC member) in order to keep out the light from the Lower Promenade walking area. As a side note, in case anyone wants to use the internet, we were able to pick up wifi signal well from this cabin and were able to use our internet minutes without having to pack the netbook to the cafe. As for problems, we didn't really have anything major. We had one issue with the toilet (it just wouldn't work) and it was fixed immediately. The only other issue was with our TV (poor reception on most channels), which did not get resolved even after speaking with the front desk a number of times. Overall, I would have to say the only real complaint about the cabin itself is the lack of a bar fridge, which was not really that big of a deal for a shorter cruise, but something we had made good use of on our longer cruise last fall. We were told later that you can rent a fridge for a couple dollars per day, which is a good option should you need one. Overall it was a great cabin and I would book one in the same area again without hesitation!

7034 on the Rotterdam was great. It is the only suite on that deck with a shower only (no tub) but this was not a disadvantage since I am partially handicapped and a walk-in shower is ideal. I haven't figured out why they didn't put a tub in this one cabin but there must have been a reason. The large balcony had two recliners and a table and four chairs and we spent a lot of time there. We had it on the Black Sea, Israel, Egypt run in October 08. We got this as an upgrade from a B so we were more than content.

I took these pictures of the “refurbished” Rotterdam January 4, 2010. It is cabin 7059, which is the last cabin aft on the starboard side. It should be noted that this is one of the new cabins, added at drydock (December 2009.) We had lots of problems with this cabin, mostly plumbing issues, which hopefully have resolved.
