M 784 Large Interior Stateroom Deck 4 A Deck

My stateroom was on A deck, a large inside and I loved it. It was clean
and spacious. The room stewards were always there, smiling and efficient,
even if they have one of the hardest jobs on board. I liked it...it is
big enough, especially since I was alone in it and everything was very
clean. I heard a bit of noise once in a while coming from under the cabin
but only during the day. The air conditioning was not working at the beginning
of the cruise and I had to ask for a fan. It started working well on the
second day of the cruise but was never very cold.
The low points were the air conditioning in my room that was never very
cold. I even had to ask for a fan the first night or I would have had to
go sleep on a deck!

MM 830 Large Interior Stateroom Deck 4 A Deck

The announcement that staterooms were ready for occupancy came at some
point during the sail away. I didn't take note of the time but it was early
enough. We eventually made our way to 'A' Deck (deck 4) to get familiar
with our homes for the next week: adjacent interior aft cabins 830 and
836 (category MM, large interior staterooms). Note: we had booked GTY and
were happy not to be moving into the two NN cabins found on board. We were
quite happy with the size and condition of the rooms. Air conditioning
in 830 worked very well when set at FREEZE (which it was for the entire
week). The ac in 836 was not quite as good in my estimation but the occupants
were happy with it! Our bags trickled in over the course of the afternoon
(the soda and water was last to arrive...I carried the wine with me!).
We met our room stewards who provided excellent, friendly service throughout
the coming week. The cabins have plenty of storage space...thankfully we
didn't pack enough to fill all of it!
Cabin complaints? The TV is too small and difficult to operate with
the remote from certain areas (i.e, when lying somewhat inebriated in bed!).
The shower sometimes flooded the bathroom floor. I 'spect this was our
fault for not understanding the complicated mechanics of the shower curtain
but then again I don't recall being handed the SOP for that. I prefer the
sliding shower door arrangements found on some of the newer ships. Whatever...there
were always plenty of towels to clean up our mess. Noise during rough seas:
lots of creaks and moans thoughout the night. Ok,I suppose those noises
could have come from our neighbors (ahem!)but I'm gonna guess that the
aging cabin walls were the culprit here. Didn't bother me but if you are
a light sleeper you might be affected (think Mrs. Barrel here).

When we walked into the room, the bathroom was on the right side and the closets were on the left. The picture is the middle closet that we had set up for longer clothes and we used the bottom for shoes. Each closet had shelves that could fold up or down depending on the need of the passengers in the room and we found that really handy. There were at least 20 hangars in the room - some just regular and some with pants/skirt clips. There were 3 full-length closets in this room - the first had a shelf down at the bottom for the 4 blankets and the top shelf which is permanent held the life jackets. The second was what we set up as a full-length closet and the third closet had the safe so this had a 1/2 length hanging space and then shelves. Additionally, since this was a room that could hold 4, there was another 1/2 closet on top of the counter space in the room that would not be in there if it was a standard 2/3 person room. This made the counter area a bit smaller. As with the other interiors, there were 6 drawers that were a very nice size and we found out on the second to last day, there were 2 drawers under the bottoms of the beds too! Each nightstand had two drawers as well.
There were just two outlets in the cabin - one in the bathroom that we couldn't get anything to plug into since all of our items had the larger plug on the one side for the ground and the outlet in the bathroom didn't allow for that. So that left us with just one outlet for the whole room. It was close to the counter-top so I could not plug my blow dryer in there that has the larger box on the plug which made the extension cord we brought quite handy. I didn't bring one but a power strip would have been great too. I'm glad we brought something because I would not have been able to plug in anything in that outlet otherwise!
The bathroom was smallish but quite satisfactory. There were two shelves on the wall as you come in to put your toiletries on and nothing fell off of this even when we had relatively rough seas. The shower was a stall shower with about a 1.5" drop along with a small metal railing that kept the water inside as long as you made sure the shower curtain was inside the shower. For some reason, the ship tended to heel a little bit in such a direction so as to not allow all of the water to drain. We never noticed it unless we were first stepping into the shower and you felt cold water on your feet. There were two grab-bars that were helpful when the seas were a little rough. The shower head was great and was a hand-held that went into an adjustable bracket and it was great for cleaning off the younger child when she was still sandy from the beach. There was plenty of hot water for all of us to shower. There was a small shelf to hold shower items in the shower but on the first day, my shower gel must have gotten knocked down in the rough seas and it opened, losing half of the wash. I just rinsed out the shower and we were fine for the rest of the trip with me storing the large items on the floor.
Storing our suitcases was a breeze. We have a very large hard-sided suitcase that I was wondering if it would fit under the bed and it did perfectly along with room for some of the other bags. We had 4 suitcases and a garment bag and all were able to be stowed away with ease.
There are light switches for all of the lights in the room at each bed area except the bunk. The two beds and the sofa bed had switches for the room and a switch for their own reading light. Each bed had their own reading light which was very nice.
Finally, there was a DVD player in the room so one night we got a movie
and relaxed for the kids to go to sleep. It was a rough night and
that worked out perfectly for everyone. There are 1000 or so titles
that you are able to borrow from the ship so everyone should be able to
find one they like if they wish to just stay in to watch a movie.

K 609 Large Interior Stateroom Deck 5 Main Deck
[
[
Photo taken before the steward came to clean in the morning.
We had an inside cabin on deck 6 - our first inside (IRL_Joanie's
Note: This Stateroom was on Deck 6 before Veendam was refurbished).
The number was 609. It was very quiet and dark (of course it was
inside). We never slept better or later than on this cruise.
This was a bargain priced cruise, but I would not hesitate to book an inside
cabin again. I prefer a balcony, but for the price, it was very comfortable.

The interior was as to be expected; nicely furnished
with a black leather sofa, a side chair and flat-screen TV and mini-fridge.
The entry hall was a tight squeeze, as was negotiating around the bed,
but not much different than expected. (edited by IRL_Joanie
June 17, 2010 in order to clear up Stateroom Classification and location
confusion about this stateroom after retrofitting. The Stateroom now appears
more like CA 329 and CA 333 below than in the photos above.)

There was plenty of room to relax, in fact there
were lounge chairs right outside the sliding glass doors. Obviously having
a private verandah is better, but for the price, having the Lanai was perfect.
You still get the ocean view, and chairs to lounge in. Deck 6 was the “walking
deck” because you could go all the way around the ship on the outside.

C 390 Large Ocean View Stateroom
Deck 6 Lower Promenade Deck
[

One of the fully wheelchair-accessible cabins
on the Veendam. Cabin 390 is located on Deck 6, Lower Promenade, and looks
like it was originally two cabins with the wall knocked out. Instead
of the bathroom being near the entry, it was moved to the back of the second
cabin, with a separate sitting area and the desk situated there, also.
The front part of that second cabin is blocked off for fire extinguisher
storage, with the entry on the outside and the back part forming the wall
where the mirror and desk are. The entry to the cabin has a wider
door and the closets are located farther from the entry so there's a huge
hallway leading to the bed. It seems like there's more space on each
side of the bed when it's converted to a queen. It feels very roomy,
almost like a suite. The elevators are nearby but not directly across from
the cabin, and there was no shared wall on the right side of the cabin
so it was very quiet. Also, there's an exit to the outside Lower
Promenade walk right near the cabin.

Veranda Stateroom 212 we were on the port side, back of the ship. (Photos
taken 17 July 2010)
Its kind of hard to tell but the tub is much shorter than a normal bath tub. You can sit in it but its cramped. We had trouble with the water. We thought the knob on the left was for hot, and the one on the right was for cold. But we could only get hot water to come out. We came to find out that the knob on the left controls the amount of water and the one on the right controls the temperature. When we learned this, everything was fine.
On the first day, my wife informed me she was going to take a Jacuzzi, so I sat down to read and off she went. A little bit later I heard the Jacuzzi come on, and then I heard her cry for help. When I looked up towards the bathroom, I could see water flying out of the door into the hall. I swear to God, it was like something out of “I Love Lucy”! I ran in and shut down the Jacuzzi for my wife. It seems she did not have enough water over the jets, and they sprayed everything down pretty good. I laughed till I cried.
We were a little disappointed with the furniture on the balcony. It was not up to the standard of the room. Notice the fraying on the chair below, the cushions were a bit stained, and kind of ugly. The rail was nicely shellacked and I like the teakwood floor, though.
A semi funny story… we really didn’t want the robes hanging out in view so we moved them to the closet. After we left the room and came back, the stewards had put two new robes back on the hooks and left the robes we had in the closet. So we left them out for the rest of the trip.
The stateroom was lovely and seemed a little bigger than our previous
two cruises on RCL and Celebrity. A nice size leather sofa. The bouquet
was a gift for the wife.
