On Eurodam, Nieuw Amsterdam, Noordam, Westerdam, Oosterdam, Prinsendam, Zuiderdam: Every single Stateroom has a cooler (HAL does not like to use the word refrigerator as they don't get as cool as some medicines that require "refrigeration" need... but they will get beverages cold...)

On the rest of the HAL fleet (and note the above says NIEUW AMSTERDAM... NOT Amsterdam ) If it has a verandah, it has a cooler!

IRL_Joanie's Note: The standard Verandah/Balcony is 6 ft. deep by 9 ft. wide. VA aft/stern Verandah/Balconys are deeper (how much depends on which deck, and Vista class (Noordam, Oosterdam, Westerdam & Zuiderdam) versus Signature class (Eurodam & Nieuw Amsterdam). VD are 7.5 ft. deep. VF and VE on Vista Class ships, Noordam, Oosterdam, Westerdam and Zuiderdam, Verandah deck are only 4.5 ft. deep.

VA 4174, VA 4176, VA 4179 & VA 4181 Deluxe Verandah Ocean View Staterooms. These VA AFT Staterooms are about 3 ft. longer than the other 2 Aft facing cabins (VB 4178 & VB 4183.) They are also about 6 inches wider. Does not sound like much but does help with the congestion around the end of the bed. Verandah/Balcony size is about 10 ft. X 10 ft., with a lounge chair, two deck chairs, a very small table and ottoman/footstool. The Deck 4 Aft VA's are all about 3 ft. longer inside than the side VA's, and the verandah/balconys are about 4 ft. deeper than the side VA's.

SA, SB & SC Stateroom Sizes NOT INCLUDING Verandah/Balcony:

These sizes are most likely the same on all 4 Vista Class ships, Noordam, Oosterdam, Westerdam & Zuiderdam, though there may be slight differences in the sizes.

The stern Verandah/Balconys on the Noordam are different from the other three Vistas. Deck 4 verandah/balconys are larger and more exposed, and the Deck 5 ones are completely covered. The Oosterdam and Westerdam are like this. The Noordam stern is evenly sloped, so that Deck 4 is not larger nor is Deck 5 covered any more than Deck 4, Deck 6, or Deck 7. Deck 8 has a lot of coverage on all four ships, but probably a little more so on the Noordam.

If you want to get the best possible wifi signal in your cabin on the Oosterdam, book one near the locations of the hallway antennas that I have listed below. I would bet that they are in similar locations on the other three Vista ships as well.

Our cabin is 1123, a Cat K inside cabin. It is very nice, but warm. We have the AC turned all the way down but will have to ask someone tomorrow to look at it. We are aft just in front of the crew quarters. When you come into the door to the right is a couch that is shaped like an L . The couch fits into the corner and there is a table in front of it, and a chair on the other side. On the wall on the right is a counter and there is a refrigerator and a cabinet underneath. The cabinet has a hairdryer that is attached. I used it tonight and it is very weak…only 1200 watts. My hair was not dry by the time we left for dinner. Next time I’ll bring my own. The fridge was full of soda and stuff for purchase. We took it out and asked our cabin steward if he wanted us to store it in the closet or if he wanted to remove it. He said he would remove it but he forgot because it was still here when we got back from dinner. They are very busy on embarkation day so I'm sure he'll do it tomorrow. Attached to the table is a closet that is actually 3 separate closets. There is a safe inside and some shelves as well. Needed more hangars which the room steward brought promptly. There is a stool pushed underneath the counter. The bed (2 twins pushed together) is pushed into an alcove to the left, with the obligatory fake curtains above it pretending that they are a window. Night stands on each side. The bathroom is to the left as you enter the stateroom. Typical cruise ship bathroom. So far the negatives we have noticed are that it is very dark in here….there is a mirror above the counter, along with a makeup mirror, but you can’t even see your face in the mirror it is so dark. There is a flat screen TV mounted in the corner above the counter. I tried tonight to turn it so I could watch it from the bed, but it doesn’t move. It is facing the L shaped couch. I’m going to ask the cabin steward tomorrow if it can be moved. (Note, asked the cabin steward and the TV is facing the bed as much as it can, it does not rotate.) There is a DVD player underneath. No info in the cabin regarding TV stations, DVD rental, movies, nothing….Our first inside cabin in years, but it is very big and seems like it will be fine.

The room was very large but we expected the balcony to be larger. On our Disney cruise where our room was at the back of the ship, Our room wrapped all the way around half the ship. On the Zuiderdam at the front, our verandah was on the side of our room and they closed off the section in front of our room with a metal barrier. There was a door in the hallway just outside our room that led to the front deck, but it was locked and for crew only. They did unlock the door and allow people out there the day we got to the canal and went through the locks, so that made us happier. Our room had a large handicapped bathroom with a sink, tub and a roll in shower. It was well fixed to drain any shower water away from the room, but we found it very odd that the toilet was in the shower at the opposite end. You can see this in the pictures. Didn't like that part at all.

Zuiderdam 5043 in Spring 2007. It was (I believe) a category VC. This shows how they set it up with two beds, and features a lovely towel animal! We loved the room and the balcony. I would have preferred a more mid-ship location just because it was a long walk to things we wanted to do in the aft (like the Lido). Not a big deal, though, especially since the cruise was FREE! :)

We were in a quad room in Category VF on the Verandah deck - stateroom 5057. We are a family of 4, 2 adults and 1 teen and 1 child. The bunk bed was over the queen bed and the stewards had to come and pull it out from the ceiling on the first day to set it up (3rd Photo) they also provided a ladder for the bunk bed that they put at the foot of the bed. During the day time, the stewards would fold up the bed as you can see on my (2nd) photo, this puts the bunk out of our way. We didn't use the sofa bed, us three girls slept on the bed and hubby slept on the bunk, this gave us easier access to the deck. The deck wasn't huge but it was roomy enough for the 4 of us to stand and see the views. (IRL_Joanie's Note: when you have the bunks over the bed, it is best to ask the Stateroom Stewards to make the bed up so that the pillows are at the foot of the bed. This configuration will keep you from either bumping your head(s) and/or being stepped on by the person getting out of the bunk above.)

We booked this suite specifically for our 10th anniversary cruise to Alaska Inside Passage out of Vancouver. The suite was lovely but the balcony was a magical space in such a majestic setting. Highly recommend it to any nature lovers.

We sailed on the Zuiderdam to Alaska this past July and had an aft SC suite 5190 with a huge completely sheltered balcony. THAT was the suite of a lifetime (it was our 10th anniversary trip too) and since we were all 3 very sick (upper resp. ickiness) for a couple days of that cruise, the huge balcony enabled us to enjoy all the nature around us from a sheltered space, accept our self imposed isolation cheerily (made all that much easier by our amazing room steward and wonderful in room dining staff), and steer clear of other passengers who I am sure did not want to share in our misery. And the Inside Passage, you simply can not beat the scenery and the smooth ride.

For us, the balcony is a vital space as we are very relaxed travelers, even the 8 year old, who have all 3 been known to umm... well... take a few afternoon trips to dreamland on the balcony. And thankfully if there is a bit of wind blowing the neighbors don't hear the snoring

As for good and bad concerning the cabins... there was no bad for either room. The hike to the back of the ship for the SC is about the worst I can come up with but I would have walked much farther for that balcony. I can remember our first view of it when we boarded. I think we all 3 went out and started dancing. Had anyone been watching, they would have thought we were insane. But it was simply spectacular.

Selecting the cabin for our first cruise, we picked HAL because of the larger cabins as well as the itinerary. Then, going to Alaska, (Zuiderdam … inside passage from Vancouver … June 05, 2010) we wanted a great view. Cabin SC-6177, starboard on the stern with a wraparound balcony, was THE one. We spent hours on that balcony every day watching the scenery pass by.

The room size was much more than enough for two. DW loved the dressing room. There was storage everywhere: under the bar, cabinet next to the sofa, under bed drawers (and still enough underbid space for four suitcases!), FOUR closets, night stands, desk, etc. We also liked the king bed vs. a queen. The double sink bathroom was great. There were two medicine cabinets and a full length shelf under the counter as well.

We are in our fifties and the walking distance from the cabin to the Vista Lounge, Casino, or the Crow's Nest was no issue for us, as we did not go there every day. The Neptune Lounge wasn't that far away, the MDR was an elevator ride straight down, and room service was always speedy. We would trade the bit of extra walking for the chance to see everything on both sides of the ship any day. The other thing about the wrap-around: when we were cruising, the wind chill on the side balcony required coats and gloves but the still air on the stern allowed for comfortable viewing. No matter which way the wind blew, half our balcony was calm air.

I loved the PS! The balcony, with hot tub (which didn't get used), and the dining nook (which did!), was great. We had a third roommate who slept in the pull down bed in the living room hutch.

The cabinet in the dining room was filled with Waterford crystal (pattern: Lismore). My travel agent held a dinner party one night for about 8 guests, and the Pinnacle Grill manager agreed to cater it (which they don't normally do).

It was a wonderful week on the lovely Zuiderdam!

Some corrections on the stateroom pages for the Zuiderdam. It says that there is a sofa bed. The bed is a queen sized Murphy bed and very comfortable. It folds out from the wall below the TV in the living room. In one of the attached pictures you can see the doors in the wall below the TV where it is stored.

This cruise was a family cruise that I booked for my mother and I, Aunts and Uncles, and cousins. We had a sail away party for which the ship provided appetizers, bar service and servers as you can see in one of the pictures. In addition to our family we also had some fellow CC members join us for the sail away party. So about 20 people in all attended. The ship made no mention to us that they don't usually do this, actually their attitude was just the opposite; they were well prepared to do it and provided us with numerous options.

The hot tub on the balcony is way too small for anyone except children and very small people.

Our Zuiderdam stateroom was deluxe verandah suite SB 7088. It is one of the so-called “hump” suites or “angled” suites on the Vista class ships. Size: the suite appears comparable in size to the SA suites. The biggest differences are in the layout and the verandah. When we had the opportunity to visit an SA suite (thanks Mpowered), we noticed a few extra shelve placed around and the sofa was a bit different. The bathroom in our suite was oriented along the cross ship direction (it is what “sticks out” into the hall on the diagram), while the one in the SA suite was oriented along the ship's axis. The verandah is a bit narrower in this suite – 5.5 ft deep for the straight section, about 6 ft deep for the angled section, and 7 ft deep in the corner where our verandah met with the verandah of the SA suite just forward of ours. The SA verandahs are 7 ft deep for their entire length. The verandah was usable most of the time, even when the ship was steaming ahead. It was a bit windy, but that did not mean we could not use it. Like all verandahs, its “windiness” depended heavily upon the direction of the wind relative to the position of the ship. When we were running with the wind, the air was almost still out on our verandah. The view from the verandah was exceptional. We had excellent views straight out to sea and forward along the ship. We did not feel any loss of privacy from the fact that many staterooms along the side of the ship could see us on the verandah – we could also see them! The rule is wear clothing when out on the verandah. For being so far from the Neptune Lounge, I was surprised at the WiFi signal I got. I had no trouble logging on during the cruise. What is even more interesting is a suite closer to the Neptune could not get a good signal. I was under the impression, from the Neptune concierge, that the WiFi signal originates from there, that may or may not be correct. Overall – we loved this suite, and would book it again.

We loved the stateroom and balcony! The room is smaller than the SAs but the balcony makes up for it. The sides got windy but the wind is blocked across the back for the most part. However it is quite a hike to the Neptune Lounge.

This room was SS 8046 on the Zuiderdam in Sept. 2008 on a Mediterranean cruise. This room was right under the Lido deck but there was little noise. The only noise I remember was the night of the dessert extravaganza. The room was in very good condition with nice verandah and everything in good repair. Nothing I did not like about the room.
