"S" Class Ships: This stands for the first ship in the class (Statendam.) [ Maasdam, Ryndam, Statendam & Veendam [ These ships are the "backbone" of the HAL fleet. They are virtually identical except for color schemes and artwork.	"R" Class Ships: This stands for the first ship in the class (Rotterdam) [ Amsterdam, Rotterdam. Volendam & Zaandam [ These ships are very similar to the "S"class, but a bit longer and wider. Unlike the "S" class, they are not all identical.	"Vista" Class Ships: These ships are named for the directions of the compass (Noord, Oost, West and Zuid) [ Noordam (Noord = North), Oosterdam (Oost = East), Westerdam (West) &Zuiderdam (Zuid = South)
Prinsendam is a Class of its own: The smallest and oldest HAL ship, she is in a class by herself, known lovingly as "The Elegant Explorer"	Signature Class Ships: These ships are larger, improved versions of the "Vista" class, much as the "R" class can be considered improved versions of the "S" class. Stateroom Furnishings

Your stateroom is furnished with a ship-to-shore telephone which enables you to easily call anywhere in the world, 24 hours a day (prices are found in your stateroom directory).

You'll also find ample closet and drawer space, individually-controlled air conditioning, a television for viewing CNN, movies and onboard features.

All staterooms are equipped with standard 110 AC and 220 AC outlets. If your shaver operates on standard 110 AC, by all means bring it (guests with pre- or post-cruise hotel packages may want to bring converters and/or adapters for their hotel stay). You may wish to bring a travel alarm clock as they are not available in staterooms. Hairdryers are available in staterooms on all ships.

For safety reasons, we respectfully request that you do not iron clothing in your stateroom. Ironing facilities are available at the self-service laundry rooms for your convenience on all ships except the ms Oosterdam, ms Westerdam, ms Zuiderdam, ms Noordam and ms Eurodam. In addition, full laundry and valet services are available on all of our ships.

Refrigerator/Cooler: On Eurodam, Nieuw Amsterdam, Noordam, Westerdam, Oosterdam, Prinsendam, Zuiderdam: Every single Stateroom has a cooler (HAL does not like to use the word refrigerator as they don't get as cool as some medicines that require "refrigeration" need... but they will get beverages cold...) On the rest of the HAL fleet (and note the above says NIEUW AMSTERDAM... NOT Amsterdam ) If it has a verandah, it has a cooler!

Verandah/Balcony Sizes: The STANDARD Verandah/Balcony is 6 feet deep by 9 feet wide. VA aft/stern Verandah/Balcony are deeper (how much depends on which deck, and Vista class versus Signature class). VD are 7.5 feet deep. VF and VE on Vista class Verandah deck are only 4.5 feet deep. As of this time I do not have much information on the Verandah/Balcony sizes of the PS, SA, SB, SC or SY categories Staterooms.

Eurodam: SC 4176 and SC 4181: Balcony is 312 sq. ft. & Stateroom is 374.4 sq. ft. for a grand total of 686.4 sq. ft.
Eurodam: SC 5186 and SC 5187: Balcony is 298 sq. ft. & Stateroom is 331.8 sq. ft. for a grand total of 629.8 sq. ft.

Westerdam SC 4185: Stateroom is 324 sq. ft. (waiting for verandah sizes from HAL)
Westerdam SC 5191: Stateroom is 365 sq. ft. (waiting for verandah sizes from HAL)

WiFi Antenna Locations

If you want to get the best possible wifi signal in your cabin on the Noordam, book one near the locations of the hallway antennas that I have listed below. I would bet that they are in similar locations on the other three Vista ships as well.

IRL_Joanie's Note: Per other Cruise Critic Members who have taken their Lap Tops with them, the WiFi in many staterooms is basically hit and miss on all the ships, unless you are very near the Neptune Lounge. So, please keep this in mind when you are attempting to connect via HAL WiFi while on board.
